The City Council of La Oliva, through the Department of Sports, led by Gleiber Carreño, presents the new edition PALADEA Fuerteventura from 7 to 11 May. Hand in hand with the organization of Caima Sports Club and the collaboration of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Promotur of the Canary Islands Government and the Tourist Board of Fuerteventura, the Consistory promises a unique experience under the slogan ‘Products of our land that are to eat’.

Tradition and creativity, thus become the protagonists of the stoves for 5 days where gastronomy, nature and sport merge to give rise to a unique event on the island. In the gastronomic field, this edition will offer a varied agenda of showcookings with the presence of renowned chefs such as Alberto Marín on Friday, May 9. On Saturday, May 10, Michelin-starred chef Víctor Suárez will share his best culinary techniques with other renowned professionals such as Ángel Lirio, Yareli Pérez Vera and Jorge Carballeira. In addition, Marcos Gutiérrez will be in charge of a showcooking specialized in salted fish.

Other activities such as the mojo picón contest and the majorero stew contest, under the management of the Fuertegourmet Association, will also stand out, focusing on traditional recipes that evoke the dishes of yesteryear. The meeting will also include the renowned tapas contest, where creativity and flavor will be awarded with prizes such as Tapa de Oro, Tapa de Plata, Tapa de Bronce, and Tapa del Público.

The event will also feature an exhibition of gofio pellets and a day dedicated to our elders, where new versions of the usual dishes of the area will be proposed, using zero kilometer products. There will also be activities for children such as cooking workshops in PALADEA Kid and gastronomic experiences through PALADEA Schools for primary school students.

Drinks will not be left out either, as the meeting will feature a tasting of Victoria beer, wines from the wineries Tindama de La Oliva, Arautaba from Tenerife and Piedras de San Pedro from Riviera del Duero. PALADEA also brings with it a masterclass of Arehucas rum and a session on the world of gin and tonic by Royal Bliss tonic.

As far as sports are concerned, various events will be included, such as a 44 km mountain bike race, a 32 km trail, a 10 km hiking route from Los Lajares to Villaverde, and two parkour exhibitions. In turn, the craft market will offer local products and creations of artisans. Finally, the atmosphere will be enveloped in live music with the participation of groups such as Los 600, Los Aseres, Escuela de Calor, Dj Maxi, and Tributo a Sabina – 500 Noches Banda, among others.

The mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, highlights the relevance that the event has been acquiring in recent years: “PALADEA has managed to become a benchmark in the area of gastronomy and sport not only within the island, but also in the province of Las Palmas. Therefore, we consider of vital importance to continue betting on our culinary traditions, the local product and our athletes in a unique meeting in our municipality.”

For her part, the president of the Cabildo Insular de Fuerteventura, Lola Garcia, highlights the collaboration of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura in an event already consolidated and that links sport with music and good food. “We are proud to invite the entire population to taste the best of our local produce.”

Finally, the Councilor for Sports, Gleiber Carreño, says: “PALADEA puts the accent on sport in La Oliva following the approach of promoting sports tourism in the municipality. The goal is to remember, once again, that sport and the taste for our traditions are part of the DNA of La Oliva.”
