The project has a base tender budget of €5,181,048.74 and an expected construction period of 16 months.
The president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Lola García, highlighted the commitment to increasing the number of social care places on the island, “with people always at the centre of the island institution’s policies”.
As part of this goal, “we continue to increase social care resources in Fuerteventura, with the tender worth €5,181,048.74 for the Costa Calma Day Care Centre”. “This is a much-needed resource that will add a further 30 social care places to the southern area of Fuerteventura. At the same time, work continues on establishing a centre in the Antigua-Betancuria area, along with other resources due to open soon,” García added.
Lola García also highlighted the coordinated work between the Departments of Social Action and Procurement in bringing this important project to tender.
For the councillor for Social Action, Víctor Alonso, “this infrastructure and the services it will provide will go a long way towards meeting the need for day centres on the island of Fuerteventura. The day care centres currently in operation (Josefina Pla in Corralejo and Puerto del Rosario), the future day centre for dependent elderly people in Gran Tarajal, which is already under construction, and this new one going out to tender today, will help address the existing shortfall in social care places and family respite provision”.
Alonso stressed that it should be noted that “the Cabildo’s Social Action Area has drawn up the 2026/2031 Social Care and Family Respite Infrastructure Plan, which has been coordinated and planned together with the island’s various Town Councils, whom we thank for their collaboration and willingness throughout the whole process”.
“This infrastructure, which costs just over five million euros, is being funded with the Island Corporation’s own funds, which will make it possible to have a first-rate social care facility in the southern part of the island, providing essential services to the local population in situations of dependency.”
The mayor of Pájara, Alejandro Jorge, highlighted the coordination between administrations that made it possible for the Town Council to hand over the land, and thanked the Island Corporation for the drive it is putting behind making this resource a reality.
