The Cabildo de Fuerteventura has hosted the presentation of the Cororasa-Prefabricados El Manadero Island League of Lucha Canaria (Canarian wrestling), second category, featuring the clubs El Rosario, Unión Tetir and Saladar de Jandía.
The president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Lola García, highlighted the high standard of majorera Lucha Canaria and wished the competing teams good luck. “It is a real privilege to witness in the terrero the values of our traditional sport: effort, camaraderie and, above all, identity. We must thank the teams, the Federation, the fans and the sponsors who make Lucha Canaria possible in Fuerteventura.”
The Cabildo de Fuerteventura supports the second category league through a grant awarded to the Island Wrestling Federation and the three clubs under the island sports support programme. According to the Councillor for Sports, Luis González, “expectations are high. This second category league is the right decision, because it was the clubs’ boards themselves who decided on it — they are the ones who work all year round to make Lucha Canaria possible in Fuerteventura.”
The second category league kicks off this Saturday with a match between Unión Tetir and Saladar de Jandía.
During the event, representatives from the companies Cororasa and Prefabricados El Manadero signed sponsorship agreements with the Island Lucha Canaria Federation to support the development of the league. The youth categories — infantil, cadete and juvenil — are also sponsored by the companies OPC and Sumytrans.
