Mayor Juan Cabrera says new machines will be installed and others repaired, while to streamline the running of the centre, users will now be required to be registered residents of the municipality and to sign up in advance at the Town Council.
Antigua Town Council has begun refurbishing the municipal gym and has introduced major changes to improve how it operates, including access controls such as a requirement to be registered as a resident of the municipality in order to use it and to complete a prior registration at the Town Hall.
Mayor Juan Cabrera has announced that new machines will be installed, damaged equipment repaired, and various works carried out to bring the sports facility up to date.
“We have a quality facility, but it needs upkeep, and the new governing group committed to working on the demands for improved sports facilities, supporting strength training and healthy living,” said Juan Cabrera.
The Councillor for Sports, Alejandro García, added that “the gym is in high demand, with large numbers of users every day, but it needed tighter controls and repairs to the interior and equipment.” The facility now has staff responsible for supervision, cleaning and maintenance, working morning and afternoon shifts.
Specifically, new opening hours have been set for the gym, located in Antigua’s sports area, running from 8.00am to 2.00pm and from 3.00pm to 10.30pm, to make it easier to balance work, family life and sport, Juan Cabrera concluded.
