Once again, sport and tourism are working together as drivers of change and social support, this time in aid of the Play & Train Association. This is the premise behind this weekend’s Charity Padel Tournament, taking place from 2 to 4 October, presented by La Oliva Town Council through its Sports Department, headed by Gleiber Carreño, and its Tourism Department, run by David Fajardo. As in previous years, the aim is to raise funds to support the work carried out by the beneficiary association on Fuerteventura, in this case Play & Train.
Over the course of the weekend, padel players will compete for the podium, but the event will also feature a charity auction in aid of this year’s beneficiary association. The auction will take place on 3 October at 2.30pm at the Las Marismas restaurant in El Cotillo, with well-known national journalists Cristina Bea and David Blay acting as event ambassadors.
Items up for auction include an FC Barcelona shirt worn by Patri Guijarro, a Real Madrid basketball shirt signed by the whole squad, a ball signed by the Atlético de Madrid men’s first team, a shirt signed by Marc Márquez, a Real Betis shirt signed by the first team, a Barça shirt signed by Aitana Bonmatí, signed gloves from Leo Román, a Real Madrid men’s shirt signed by Guti, a Real Sociedad men’s shirt signed by the whole squad, a Barça shirt signed by Dani Olmo, an Elche shirt signed by Fede Redondo, a shirt signed by Federico Chingotto, a CD Tenerife shirt signed by the whole squad, an RC Deportivo de La Coruña men’s shirt, and a signed Raúl Tamudo RCD Espanyol de Barcelona shirt.
The Mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, highlighted: “Once again we are presenting the Charity Padel Tournament with the aim of continuing to support those associations that drive change and social assistance in our community. This year, the beneficiary association is Play & Train, as we continue to back their work on behalf of so many people on our island. We invite everyone to enjoy this weekend dedicated to sport and social change.”
The Sports Councillor, Gleiber Carreño, said: “We are proud to host this Charity Padel Tournament once again, combining sport with a strong element of solidarity. In doing so, we continue to focus not only on sports tourism but also take a further step by supporting the work of Play & Train on Fuerteventura.”
The Tourism Councillor, David Fajardo, added: “From our department, we are proud that, on this occasion, tourism can help showcase support for such a worthy cause as the day-to-day work carried out by the Play & Train Association. In terms of the event itself, it continues to promote La Oliva as a quality sports tourism destination, going beyond traditional mass tourism and remaining mindful of our natural surroundings. We would also like to thank the Hotel Coral Beach in El Cotillo for its collaboration in providing the venue for the event.”
Meanwhile, the Councillor for Accessibility, Carmen Alonso, explained: “Events like this Charity Padel Tournament in La Oliva show us the strong social value that sport can have. In its third year, the tournament will bring together big names from padel and other disciplines. More than twenty participants are joining together for such a worthy cause: inclusion in the world of sport.”
We invite you to enjoy a weekend in which padel and social support take centre stage, especially the charity lunch, held to support the fantastic work of the Play & Train Association.
