The international food fair will run from 2 to 4 October with show-cooking sessions, flavours from around the world, children’s workshops, live music and leisure activities
The international food fair ‘Sabor a Castillo’ returns to Caleta de Fuste this weekend for a new edition running from 2 to 4 October. The initiative, organised by the Association of Business Owners of El Castillo (AECA), is funded by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura’s Trade Department and supported by Antigua Town Council.
Over three days, ‘Sabor a Castillo’ will offer a programme combining food, music, workshops, dance and activities for different audiences, featuring flavours from around the world and initiatives designed to boost El Castillo’s commercial area.
AECA president Eduard Van Der Veen stressed the importance of “events like this being able to go ahead, because they are very important for the sector in El Castillo”, and thanked the Cabildo and Antigua Town Council for their support. He also encouraged residents and visitors to come along and enjoy the fair throughout the weekend.
The president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Lola García, said that “Sabor a Castillo is now a well-established event and an example of civic participation and the cultural richness of our island”, highlighting its growth and the collaboration of residents, associations and organisations. She also stressed that the fair “is much more than flavours from around the world — it’s a platform for boosting the local economy and local trade, which supports many families and underpins majorero economic activity”, and recalled the Cabildo’s commitment to commercial revival through its various support schemes.
Meanwhile, the Trade Councillor, Lolina Negrín, invited the public to take part in this new edition of ‘Sabor a Castillo’, a fair that “is made possible thanks to the work of the AECA association, in collaboration with Antigua Town Council and the Cabildo’s Trade Department”. Negrín highlighted that the programme includes “activities for the whole family” and praised the event as an opportunity to help boost El Castillo’s commercial area.
Antigua Town Council’s Trade Councillor, Guiseppe Signorino, said this third edition of ‘Sabor a Castillo’ is the result of AECA’s work to boost this tourist area, noting that collaboration between the different administrations “shows that working together can achieve important things” to improve activity and contribute to the initiative’s success.
Also present at the opening was the president of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Fuerteventura, Isabel Lauciria, whose organisation will take part in the fair with various information and prevention activities.
Food, music and activities for all ages
The programme will begin on the afternoon of Friday 2 October with the opening of the fair, a show-cooking session and various musical performances, including a set by Kevin Archer and Alma Rebelde, who will accompany the start of ‘Sabor a Castillo’.
Saturday 3 October will be the fair’s main day, featuring children’s activities, zumba, salsa, bachata and sevillanas workshops, exhibitions, live music and a show-cooking session. The day will combine food and leisure offerings for different audiences and will also feature performers and groups such as Grupo K.Libre, Batucada Calemba and La Banda del Cuco.
Sunday 4 October, the final day, will be especially dedicated to families, with a children’s cookery workshop, along with another musical performance to close the programme.
Throughout the three days, ‘Sabor a Castillo’ will feature food stalls and offerings linked to flavours from around the world, reinforcing its international character and its commitment to boosting El Castillo and generating activity in the area.
A programme to enjoy as a family
Among the new features of this edition is the inclusion of activities aimed specifically at children, with offerings such as ‘Le Petit Chef’ and ‘Today I’m a Pastry Chef!’, which will take place over the weekend.
The organisers encourage residents and visitors to come to El Castillo and take part in the various activities planned over these three days.
