Tindaya will once again play host to the Baifo Extreme as it returns for its 11th edition on 11, 12 and 13 September. Antigua… no, La Oliva Town Council, through its Sports Department led by Gleiber Carreño, today, Thursday 10 September, presented one of the island’s most prominent obstacle course races. With support from the Department of Tourism and the Environment, headed by David Fajardo, the council reaffirms its firm commitment to promoting sport in a truly unique setting: the Tindaya mountain.

The event continues to grow year after year, offering runners fresh challenges — not only new obstacles and hurdles for athletes, but also an experience that goes beyond extreme sport, with music, food and an improved Fan Zone. This year also marks the 10th edition of Baifo Extreme Kids, which will feature special surprises for the youngest athletes.

The event kicks off tomorrow, 11 September, with a free children’s OCR workshop, where boys and girls can take their first steps in this sporting discipline. On Saturday, 12 September, they will need plenty of courage to tackle the obstacles in the Kids category. Finally, on Sunday, 13 September, adult athletes will compete for the podium in this 11th edition.

The Mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, once again highlighted the local government’s commitment to boosting sport in the municipality: “Year after year, the Baifo Extreme continues to demonstrate the importance of promoting sport in our municipality. This OCR race follows the vision we set out from the very beginning for La Oliva, bringing together athletes from both the island and further afield to enjoy sport in such a special setting as the area around Tindaya mountain, reaffirming its place as a must on the sporting calendar.”

For her part, the Councillor for Sports, Gleiber Carreño, explained: “Year after year, the Baifo Extreme keeps outdoing itself — not only in terms of the number of athletes it brings together, but also in the new features prepared for each edition. This event reaffirms our commitment to sport and reflects the goal we pursue from the department of promoting our municipality as a leading sports destination.”

The Councillor for Tourism and the Environment, David Fajardo, highlighted the environmental focus that has been developed across the different editions: “The Baifo Extreme is, without doubt, a benchmark event in its sporting discipline, attracting athletes from across the islands and mainland Spain, in keeping with the council’s commitment to sports tourism. Furthermore, given the setting in which the race takes place — the area around Tindaya mountain — we continue to place emphasis on environmental education, aiming to raise awareness among both adults and children about the importance of caring for our natural surroundings.”

Meanwhile, the Councillor for Sports at the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Luiso González, stated: “Through the Cabildo de Fuerteventura’s Island Sports Support Programme, we have been providing financial backing for two sporting events — the Baifo Extreme and the Baifo Kids — so that, after 10 editions, they can keep growing and improving every year. These are two events within the OCR discipline, which is growing on the island in terms of the number of athletes taking part, achieving national reach while maintaining strong local roots — something that fills us with double pride. Congratulations to the organising team, Al-Máximo, who come close to perfection with every edition, and to La Oliva Town Council, whose Sports Department has put the municipality on the map for major sporting events such as the Baifo.”

Finally, the CEO of Gesprotur, Ignacio Solana, explained: “initiatives like this reflect the value of public-private collaboration. From 2021 through to the first half of 2026, the Canary Islands Government’s Ministry of Tourism and Employment, through Turismo de Islas Canarias, has allocated €54.4 million to support 966 events, 299 of which have been sporting in nature, because we understand that these gatherings help boost the economy, generate activity and enrich the experience of both visitors and the people of the Canary Islands themselves. The Baifo Extreme is a great example of this, with strong participation, an offering also aimed at families, and a growing commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.”

The promotion of the Baifo Extreme reflects the local government’s commitment to encouraging physical activity and environmental awareness among both residents and visitors. For all the details of the competition, follow @aytolaoliva, @deporteslaoliva and @baifoextreme on social media.
