A tasting at Espacio Iberia introduces the island’s cheese-making tradition to influencers and visitors as part of a strategy to promote tourism through gastronomy
On Wednesday, the Fuerteventura Island Tourism Board (Patronato Insular de Turismo) brought the island’s gastronomy to Madrid with “Embarque a Fuerteventura”, a promotional event centred on Queso Majorero. The initiative took place at Espacio Iberia, a pop-up gastronomic space set up at the Official College of Architects of Madrid (COAM), in collaboration with Iberia Express.
The tasting gave attendees the chance to discover Queso Majorero, which holds Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status and was awarded a prize at Agrocanarias 2025. The selected cheeses were paired with wines from Fuerteventura, offering an experience that links the product with the island’s territory and its majorero livestock-farming tradition.
Made from majorera goat’s milk, Queso Majorero stands out for its quality and distinctiveness. Its presence in Madrid brought one of the products that best embodies Fuerteventura’s agri-food identity to one of the island’s key source markets.
The event was held as part of Iberia Express’s collaboration with the Canary Islands, which during the summer of 2026 exceeded 400 weekly flights from Madrid to the archipelago for the first time.
Marlene Figueroa, the Cabildo de Fuerteventura’s Tourism Councillor and vice-president of the Island Tourism Board, stressed that “gastronomy is one of the best ways to tell people who we are. Bringing Queso Majorero to Madrid means bringing the essence of Fuerteventura to one of our main source markets”.
The councillor also highlighted that “this collaboration with Iberia Express strengthens Fuerteventura’s presence beyond air connectivity and positions the island as an all-round destination, where gastronomy, quality and authenticity form part of the tourist experience”.
With this initiative, the Fuerteventura Island Tourism Board continues to promote the destination through its gastronomy, bringing one of the island’s most emblematic products to Madrid.
