Domingo ‘El Colorao’, Pino&Pino, Pedro Ageno and Trío de Raíz headline the concerts from 22 to 25 October in the Sala Sinfónica
Fuerteventura’s Third National Timple Gathering will stage four concerts from Thursday 22 to Sunday 25 October in the Sala Sinfónica at the Palacio de Formación y Congresos de Fuerteventura. The performances will bring together a range of musical projects that connect timple tradition with other styles and sounds, as part of a programme driven by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura’s Department of Culture, with artistic coordination by Domingo Rodríguez ‘El Colorao’.
The Fuerteventura National Timple Gathering will offer four concerts between Thursday 22 and Sunday 25 October in the Sala Sinfónica at the Palacio de Formación y Congresos de Fuerteventura, bringing audiences a variety of musical projects built around this instrument and its place in Canarian culture.
The programme opens on Thursday 22 October at 8.30pm with Pino&Pino. Their concerts showcase the charango, a stringed instrument of Hispanic American origin related to the timple, alongside pieces from Andean tradition, contemporary music and works from the Spanish baroque. Their repertoire blends different musical influences and has won recognition from audiences and critics alike in countries such as France, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina.
On Friday 23 October at 9.00pm, it will be the turn of Domingo ‘El Colorao’, who will present ‘SURCO’, a show paying tribute to the roots of traditional Canarian music. Following the success of ‘Aulaga’ and ‘Jable’, the renowned majorero timple player brings together masters of musical tradition with young talents in a project that combines the essence of popular wisdom with new arrangements, the freshness of its performers and a forward-looking outlook.
On Saturday 24 October at 9.00pm, Pedro Ageno will perform ‘Molinos de Paso’, a musical project born out of a gathering of friends with shared interests and a desire to share their own compositions. Built around the timple and a personal artistic vision, the project creates a space for dialogue between musicians, featuring Gabriel Rodríguez on flute, Adán Moreno on guitar, Fernando Angulo on drums and Ayla Rodríguez on vocals, alongside Pedro Ageno on timple and Marta Rosa on percussion. The project moves between root music and elements drawn from jazz.
The series closes on Sunday 25 October at 8.00pm with Trío de Raíz, a group made up of Alberto González on timple, Gabriel Rodríguez on flute and Manuel Cerpa on guitar. The trio draws on Canarian folklore and the timple as its roots and anchor to explore new sonic territory and engage with other musical languages. Their work incorporates flamenco, with the guitar serving as both a traditional and innovative instrument, in a repertoire that reinterprets different styles from their own distinctive perspective.
All concerts are free, subject to prior booking through the ecoentradas.com platform.
The timple as a musical meeting point
All four concerts form part of the programme for the Third National Timple Gathering, taking place from 22 to 25 October in Fuerteventura with training activities, exhibitions, book launches, talks and discussion spaces exploring the present and future of this instrument.
Through this initiative, the Cabildo de Fuerteventura continues to promote the timple as part of the Canary Islands’ musical heritage, encouraging encounters between artists, the passing on of knowledge, and opening up the instrument to new generations and creative projects.
