Mayor David de Vera will read out the institutional declaration approved today by the Local Government Board next Wednesday, 2 September
Puerto del Rosario Town Council today approved, at an extraordinary session of the Local Government Board, an institutional declaration marking Ceuta’s Autonomy Day, which is commemorated on 2 September.
The mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, will publicly read out the declaration next Wednesday, 2 September, at 12.00pm, at the entrance to the Town Council, conveying on behalf of the Corporation and the people of Puerto del Rosario a message of solidarity, affection and institutional support for Ceuta, its institutions and, in particular, its residents.
David de Vera stressed that “Puerto del Rosario wants to stand with Ceuta on such a significant day and to convey to all its people our affection and solidarity, in the hope that it can return as soon as possible to the normality, calm and security it deserves.” The mayor added that “as an island and Atlantic municipality, we are familiar with the particularities and challenges that come with our territorial reality, and we understand how important it is for institutions to stand by the public in moments of particular sensitivity.”
The Town Council also believes that the events of 30 and 31 July, which saw a mass influx of immigrants into the Autonomous City in a manner incompatible with the proper management of migratory flows, must not be allowed to happen again, and that it is the responsibility of the State to take the necessary measures to guarantee security, stability and border control, preventing the recurrence of situations that generate uncertainty and concern among the population, as well as the need to establish swift legal channels to ensure the return of those who entered irregularly.
In this regard, the first deputy mayor, Juan Manuel Verdugo, stressed that “Ceuta needs to return to normality as soon as possible, and its citizens have the right to live in peace and security.” Verdugo pointed out that “the State must ensure that situations like those experienced on 30 and 31 July do not happen again, acting with foresight, responsibility and all the necessary resources to protect the public and preserve the stability of the city, as well as coexistence among those who live there.”
With this declaration, Puerto del Rosario Town Council reaffirms its solidarity with Ceuta and its commitment to the security, coexistence and much-needed calm of its residents, expressing its firm wish that the city will soon regain the normality taken from it on 30 July.
