The new programme includes courses in macramé, restoration, leatherwork and traditional costume-making, with options for different levels and audiences
The Cabildo de Fuerteventura, through its Craft Department, is launching a new programme of craft workshops as part of the EnRedArte project, to be held during October and November in various locations across the island. In total, twelve workshops will be offered in macramé, restoration, leatherwork and traditional costume-making, organised jointly with the Asociación de Artesanos Creativos de Fuerteventura (Fuerteventura Association of Creative Artisans) and with the collaboration of the island’s town councils and local associations.
The programme aims to bring craftwork to different parts of Fuerteventura and to support the learning and continuity of techniques and knowledge linked to traditional crafts. The workshops will take place in La Oliva, Puerto del Rosario, Betancuria, Pájara, Tuineje and Antigua.
The councillor for the area, Lolina Negrín, said: “This programme allows us to continue bringing craftwork closer to the public and to create spaces for learning, sharing knowledge and keeping alive techniques that form part of our culture.” She added that “it is important for traditional crafts to keep a presence in our towns and villages, and for new generations to be able to learn about and practise them.”
Four specialities across twelve workshops
The programme includes four macramé workshops. These will take place in La Oliva, from 2 October to 27 November; Tesjuate, from 6 October to 24 November; Tefía, also from 6 October to 24 November; and Vega de Río Palmas, in Betancuria, from 2 to 25 November.
Two restoration workshops will be held, both in the municipality of La Oliva: one in Villaverde, from 6 to 27 October, and another in Parque Holandés, from 3 to 24 November.
Leatherwork will feature four workshops. Two of these are continuation workshops and will take place in Morro Jable, from 6 October to 24 November, and Tarajalejo, from 7 October to 25 November. The other two will be held in El Matorral, from 20 October to 19 November, and Antigua, from 26 October to 16 November.
Finally, two workshops dedicated to making traditional costumes will be held in Costa Calma, from 6 October to 10 November, and La Ampuyenta, from 7 October to 4 November.
Registration and specific details for each workshop are available through the website of the Asociación de Artesanos Creativos de Fuerteventura, at artesanoscreativosftv.com.
