The project, made possible by the transfer of municipal land, will involve an investment of more than €5 million from Cabildo de Fuerteventura, which this morning launched the tender through its Department of Social Action
Pájara Town Council has welcomed the tender for the new Day Centre for Dependent Elderly People in Costa Calma, the municipality’s first day centre for the elderly. The project, driven by Cabildo de Fuerteventura through its Department of Social Action, will involve an investment of €5,181,048 and has been made possible thanks to the transfer of a municipal plot located in the Cañada del Río area.
The facility will provide 30 health and social care places for dependent elderly people from Pájara and, in particular, for residents of the southern part of Fuerteventura. The works are expected to take 16 months to complete.
Pájara’s governing team — Mayor Alejandro Jorge, the councillor for public works, Alexis Alonso, the councillor for Social Services, Kathaisa Rodríguez, and the councillor for the Elderly, Raquel Acosta — stressed that the launch of this project represents “a historic step for Pájara and a key facility to address the needs of elderly people and their families in our municipality”.
They also highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the two administrations in making the project possible, and thanked Cabildo de Fuerteventura, its president Lola García, and the councillor for Social Action, Víctor Alonso, for their involvement in advancing this priority facility.
The new day centre will feature spaces dedicated to occupational therapy, health and social care, multi-purpose rooms and areas for family support. It will also offer meal, care, personal autonomy promotion and transport services, among other provisions aimed at improving care and wellbeing for its users.
The construction of the centre will expand care resources for dependent elderly people in the south of the island and provide support services for both users and their families, fostering closer, more specialised care.
