Application period to close on 28 September 2026
The Ayuntamiento is allocating €250,000 to these grants and, for the first time, introducing a new specific category for traditional Canarian sports
Pájara Town Council is making progress in managing its sports grants, cutting the backlog that had built up over more than two years by including expenses incurred up to 31 July 2026 in the new call for applications. The scheme has a total budget of €250,000 and, for the first time, includes a specific category dedicated to traditional or vernacular Canarian sports.
Category 1, aimed at sports clubs and organisations covering disciplines other than traditional sports, has €210,000 available. Category 4, created specifically for traditional sports, has a budget of €40,000.
The Councillor for Sports, José Benito Alonso, highlighted the progress this call for applications represents for the municipality’s sports organisations, noting: “We are significantly reducing the backlog these grants had built up, bringing the aid closer to the actual period in which clubs carry out their activities. We have also introduced a specific category for traditional sports, which are part of our identity and now also have the backing of the Ayuntamiento.”
For his part, the Mayor of Pájara, Alejandro Jorge, praised the progress made in sports policy, stating: “We have taken important steps to correct the backlog in sports grants, which had grown to more than two years. We can now fund expenses up to 31 July 2026, which represents a considerable improvement for the municipality’s organisations.”
The eligible period covers expenses incurred between 1 January 2025 and 31 July 2026, inclusive. Applications must be submitted exclusively through the council’s electronic office (sede electrónica), and the deadline remains open until 28 September 2026.
Organisations applying for grants under both categories must submit the separate forms established for each one. The call for applications and all necessary documentation are available on Pájara Town Council’s electronic office.
