The event will run from 15 to 18 October in the Plaza del Palacio de Formación y Congresos
Friday, 2 October 2026.-
Journalist Àngels Barceló and writer Ignacio Martínez de Pisón will hold a conversation entitled ‘Leer abre fronteras’ (‘Reading opens borders’), which will open the 36th edition of the Fuerteventura Book Fair on Thursday 15 October.
The event, moderated by Cadena SER journalist and migration and human rights expert Nicolás Castellano, will take place in the Carpa Josefina Plá at 7.00pm.
Barceló, one of the country’s most highly regarded journalists with an extensive career – the last two decades of which have been spent at Cadena SER fronting programmes such as ‘Hoy por Hoy’ and ‘Hora25’ – will share the conversation with Ignacio Martínez de Pisón, author of titles including ‘Fin de temporada’, ‘Filek’ and ‘Ropa de casa’, and winner of the 2015 National Narrative Prize for ‘La buena reputación’.
Following the talk, four days of the fair will get under way, featuring around thirty authors from mainland Spain, the Canary Islands and Fuerteventura.
The Councillor for Culture, Rayco León, says that the programme, which will be unveiled in the coming days, will also include concerts, poetry readings and performing arts shows spanning theatre, dance and circus, arriving in Fuerteventura after touring the leading performing arts festivals over the past summer season. There will also be a children’s programme, activities for schoolchildren and the return of the Tren de los Cuentos (Story Train) for another year.
The fair is organised by the Centro Bibliotecario Insular, part of the Cabildo’s Department of Culture, in collaboration with the Government of the Canary Islands.
