La Oliva Town Council is about to award the contract for upgrading and paving the pavements of Calle Guirre in Corralejo. Following an initial phase of remodelling the area, the council is now moving forward with improving accessibility and mobility by paving the pavements and removing architectural barriers along the street.
The main aim is to continue modernising the avenue so that it offers optimal dimensions for the safe passage of residents. At the same time, the work will boost local economic activity, as the improvements to the street will encourage pedestrian movement in Geafond.
The mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, said: “We are about to award this contract, continuing the improvement of the avenue with the aim of remodelling the stretch of Calle Guirre from the junction with Calle Cernícalo to the end of the street, thereby completing the refurbishment and seeking to improve the quality of life and accessibility for our residents.”
The Councillor for Economy and Finance, Juan José Rodríguez, explained: “Once again, from the Department of Economy and Finance, and specifically from the European Funds Office, we are showing that securing external funding makes all the difference to the scope of these works. By approving this proposal, we are moving closer to continuing progress in the Geafond area and responding to the demands of the residents of Corralejo.”
Finally, the first deputy mayor, Julio Santana, noted: “We are continuing the remodelling of Calle Guirre, taking a further step not only in tidying up the area but also in our ongoing commitment to accessibility and mobility across the municipality.”
All of this will be carried out under the ERDF funding route, specifically through the Integrated Action Plans (PAI) within the Sustainable Urban Development Framework, financed by the Regional Development Fund, which will cover 85% of the cost, with the remainder provided by the council through its own funds.
This initiative reflects the local government’s commitment to continuing to improve accessibility and mobility for the residents of La Oliva.
