The programme will take place on 27 October with solar and night-time observations, a mobile planetarium and an astrophotography and meteorite workshop
Costa Calma will host a new ‘Science and Astronomy’ day tomorrow, Tuesday 27 October, an initiative run by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura to bring scientific knowledge and the exploration of the universe closer to the public through free activities aimed at everyone.
The event will be held on Avenida Jahn Reisen, in the municipal marquee located between the SBH Costa Calma Palace and SBH Mónica Beach Resort hotels, with a programme that will allow visitors to discover the universe through observation, experimentation and a range of outreach activities.
The councillor for New Technologies, Carmen Alonso, highlighted the importance of bringing science closer to the public through open, participatory activities. “We want people of all ages to be able to engage with science and astronomy in an enjoyable way, sparking their curiosity and helping them discover the wonders of the universe,” she said.
The programme will begin from 10.00am to 2.00pm with a solar and meteorite observation activity. The mobile planetarium will also be available during the morning, offering sessions every hour between 10.00am and 2.00pm, before resuming in the afternoon from 4.00pm to 6.00pm.
In the afternoon, from 4.00pm to 6.00pm, an astrophotography and meteorite workshop will also be held, giving participants the chance to try their hand at astronomical photography and learn more about these bodies from outer space.
The day will conclude at 8.00pm with a night-time observation session, offering the chance to gaze at the sky and learn more about celestial bodies and astronomical phenomena.
The initiative is organised by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, through the Department of Accessibility, IT, New Technologies, Planning and Strategic Projects, together with the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN) of the Gobierno de Canarias, and with the collaboration of Pájara Town Council.
