The Cabildo de Fuerteventura today welcomed the youth team of CL Maxorata, who were crowned Canary Islands champions in the Santiago Ojeda tournament after beating CL Tao de Lanzarote last July at the Pedro Sánchez terrero (Tarajalejo).

The president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Lola García, congratulated the team “on a great season and an exciting final that came close to selling out the terrero, which shows the great level of the club and of majorera Canarian wrestling, as well as the strong support of the fans”.

García highlighted the role played by the clubs and the Federación Insular de Lucha Canaria (Island Canarian Wrestling Federation) in continuing to develop young talent and build the sport from the grassroots up, “in a sport that embodies great values of nobility and camaraderie, as well as being part of our identity as an island and setting us apart from the rest of the world”.

The Councillor for Sports, Luis González, praised “the achievement of CL Maxorata, which has the merit of continuing to add championships and titles, generation after generation”.

On behalf of Antigua Town Council, the mayor David Herrera congratulated CL Maxorata on their season, “and on the collective achievements gained, as well as those still to come”.

Representatives of CL Maxorata thanked those present for the reception, highlighting the effort involved in continuing to add titles at regional level.
