All the folk groups sing together at the romería and offering to the Virgen de Antigua
On Sunday, 6 September, the romería and offering to the Virgen de Antigua proved that traditions can be revived and improved upon. Mayor Juan Cabrera highlighted the added prestige the event gained from the union of the municipality’s popular music groups, in a folk gathering that made history “by rehearsing and singing together, all the groups united on the stage in Plaza de Antigua.” La Tafeña, Montejanana, El Campillo and the Agrupación del Colectivo Mafasca took part, with ‘Parranda la Serená’ and ‘Los Alisios del Norte’ also performing as guests.
The Councillor for Festivities, Lucila Ruiz, highlighted the strong turnout at this year’s romería and the festive atmosphere throughout the event, with plenty of local music for families to enjoy. “This was an initiative by the rondalla of the Asociación de Mayores de Antigua to sing together to the patron saint for the first time, setting differences aside to show their devotion to the Virgen de Antigua,” said Lucila Ruiz.
