The Cabildo de Fuerteventura’s plenary session has today approved the Strategic Plan for the Management of Public Heritage Grants 2026-2028, which envisages an investment of almost €1,186,540 across the three years.
The president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Lola García, stressed the importance of consolidating and promoting the Island’s cultural wealth and heritage, “which is the essence that makes us unique”.
Through this strategic plan, the Cabildo’s Department of Cultural Heritage, led by Rayco León, is promoting a series of measures to ensure the effective conservation and enhancement of this shared legacy.
The plan is structured around two strategic lines. The first is aimed at protection and conservation, through the encouragement of interventions and investment in Fuerteventura’s cultural heritage, with generic grants awarded through competitive tender to owners of properties declared as Assets of Cultural Interest (BIC), listed properties, or those of recognised cultural heritage interest.
This line also includes agreements with the Diócesis de Canarias worth €900,000 for conservation and protection work on movable and immovable assets owned by the Church, as well as research work in the conventual area of Betancuria.
The second strategic line, meanwhile, focuses on the dissemination and promotion of heritage, encouraging cultural activities of a heritage nature through competitive grants for associations to develop cultural activities, along with grants specifically earmarked for the associations Más Ruines que Caín, Asociación Juego del Palo Canario Maho and Asociación Cultural El Efequén.
Strategic New Technologies Plan
The island Corporation’s plenary session also approved an amendment to the Strategic Grants Plan of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura’s Department of Information Technology and New Technologies, led by Carmen Alonso, with the aim of awarding €123,000 to the Fuerteventura Chamber of Commerce for the development of the Vivero de Empresas 4.0 (Business Incubator 4.0), which will include an Island Technological Innovation Area to drive innovation, digitalisation and business development in Fuerteventura.
The department’s councillor, Carmen Alonso, explained that constant changes in new technologies, as well as new trends in management and administration, require the ongoing updating of knowledge and skills. For this reason, the amendment is being proposed to create a grant specifically earmarked for the Fuerteventura Chamber of Commerce.
