Mayor Juan Cabrera highlighted that, thanks to the efforts of the municipal technical team, the council has succeeded in pushing through this essential contract to improve the town’s waste and cleaning service, worth a total of €9,442,519.95 over four years.
Antigua Town Council yesterday approved, unanimously and with the support of every member of the Corporation, the contract for waste collection and street cleaning services in the municipality.
Mayor Juan Cabrera announced that the matter had been assessed at the extraordinary and urgent session of the Plenary Affairs Information Committee held on 24 September 2026. This followed a proposal from the mayor-president dated 23 September 2026 regarding the award of LOT 1, “PUBLIC SPACE CLEANING AND LOCAL WASTE COLLECTION AND TRANSPORT SERVICE”, part of the services contract entitled: “Provision of the Local Waste Collection and Transport Service, Public Space Cleaning and Building Cleaning in the municipality of Antigua”.
Cabrera said this represents a significant improvement achieved within the first hundred days of the new administration, after many hours of work to push through this open procedure, under standard processing, in favour of the joint venture (UTE) formed by FCC EQUAL CEE CANARIAS S.L.U, FCC MEDIO AMBIENTE S.A.U and CAPROSS 2004 SL.
“We must thank the hard work put in by the entire technical team at Antigua Town Council and by the governing group, because we have managed to push through this essential contract to improve our municipality’s cleaning service, and with the arrival of the new company we will see a major change for the residents and businesses of our municipality,” said Mayor Juan Cabrera.
According to the contract specifications, several important improvements have been included, the mayor noted, such as “a commitment to install 100 additional containers beyond those required in the tender documents, two new collection rounds in Caleta de Fuste, in the morning and at night, environmental awareness and training campaigns, new vehicles and additional staff, among other measures,” Cabrera summarised.
