- Mayor Juan Cabrera presented trophies to the participants and winners of the card tournaments; the family of Manolito García, a keen Canarian bowls player, thanked the Council and the Festivities Committee for remembering him each year at this event.
The Lanzarote team eventually beat Antigua’s in the final of the Antigua 2026 Festival Canarian Bowls Tournament, organised by the Older People’s Centre Association in collaboration with the Social Services and Festivities departments.
Antigua’s mayor, Juan Cabrera, took part in the trophy presentation ceremony, which was also attended by the family of the late sportsman Manolito García, fondly remembered by his friends for his great passion for the sport.
Juan Cabrera thanked the older residents for their involvement in all the festival events, praising their enthusiasm and their determination to enjoy themselves.
Also present was the Councillor for Social Services, Sofía Alves, who runs the Older People’s Centre and wanted to join the teams taking part in the festival tournament, offering them her full support and encouragement.
The Councillor for Festivities, Lucila Ruiz, also attended the event and praised the good spirit shared among older residents at every event, as well as the excellent organisation.
Finally, Juan Cabrera stressed that older residents are a priority for this administration and have direct access to the mayor’s office for anything they may need.
