Work has resumed in recent weeks at Casa Alta de Tindaya and the Jandía Lighthouse
The 17 workers taking part in the ‘Memoria Viva 2025’ employment scheme, run by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura’s Department of Employment Promotion under councillor Nuria Cabrera, continue to restore heritage and historically significant sites across Fuerteventura’s municipalities.
The project focuses on refurbishing and restoring publicly owned sites such as museums, cultural centres and historic spaces. Its aims are to safeguard Fuerteventura’s memory and identity, boost local employment, strengthen cultural tourism and give due recognition to the island’s cultural heritage.
In recent weeks, work has been carried out at sites including Tuineje Church and Tiscamanita Chapel, including scraping and exterior painting.
Work is also continuing at the Jandía Nature Park Interpretation Centre (Jandía Lighthouse), where access routes are being improved, the lighthouse restored and the surrounding area enhanced, as well as at Casa Alta de Tindaya in the municipality of La Oliva.
The employment scheme is jointly funded by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura and the Government of the Canary Islands through resources from the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN). It is coordinated with Museos de Fuerteventura and also receives support from the island’s town councils to carry out work at other heritage sites.
