MNX Online and TOURiLab will take part for the first time as supporting partners, as well as exhibitors and speakers, presenting TOURiLab Data Space and VISOR

Fuerteventura will have a direct presence in September at the FIWARE Global Summit 2026, which will bring together companies, public administrations, universities, technology centres and specialists from various countries in Menton (France) on 9 and 10 September.

The island’s presence will go beyond simply attending a technology event. Fuerteventura features in the very title and content of one of the talks on the official programme, dedicated to showing how a tourism data space is beginning to be used to solve real needs faced by businesses and territories.

An international technology community

For several years, FIWARE has been building an international community dedicated to ensuring that various digital solutions developed by different organisations and providers can exchange information and work together in a coordinated way.

It currently has more than 650 member organisations, over 400 cities linked to its ecosystem, and an international network of 49 FIWARE iHubs connecting businesses, universities, specialists and institutions across different territories.

Its technologies are used in smart cities, tourism, industry, mobility, energy and agriculture. In recent years they have also become particularly relevant with the development of data spaces, a new way of allowing different organisations to jointly use information while retaining control over their own data.

For an island like Fuerteventura, this issue has a particularly close application. Tourism, the environment, maritime activities, businesses and public administrations all generate highly useful information, but that information tends to be scattered across different systems and organisations.

Enabling some of that data to be used jointly can help build a better understanding of the territory, develop new services and provide more information to support decision-making.

Fuerteventura on the official agenda

On 10 September, from 12.00 to 12.20pm, Mannix Manglani, managing director of MNX Online, will take part in the Making Data Spaces Happen session with the talk: “TOURiLab & VISOR: Putting a Tourism Data Space to Work in Fuerteventura”.

The session focuses specifically on how to move data spaces from technological architectures to applications capable of generating practical value. Fuerteventura thus appears explicitly in the title and on the official agenda of the event.

At this edition, MNX Online and TOURiLab Data Space will also take part for the first time as supporting partners of the FIWARE Global Summit, a status that places them among the organisations officially contributing to the event. They will also have exhibition space and will be part of the speakers’ programme.

MNX Online is a technology company dedicated to designing and developing digital solutions for businesses and administrations, and has maintained an active relationship with the FIWARE ecosystem for years through projects, professional specialisation, training and the promotion of the TOURiLab FIWARE iHub.

Taking part in Menton now marks a further step: projects developed in Fuerteventura are becoming part of the content of an international event to which MNX Online and TOURiLab are also contributing as partners.

Sharing data while keeping control

The presentation will showcase two initiatives: TOURiLab Data Space and VISOR.

A data space can be simply understood as an environment in which different organisations can allow certain information to be used without having to pool it all onto a single platform or lose control over it.

Each participant decides what to share, who can use it and for what purpose. That is the concept behind TOURiLab Data Space, initially focused on tourism and gradually incorporating new participants and needs related to the blue economy, the audiovisual sector and territorial management.

Its application is especially relevant in a territory like Fuerteventura, where hotels, tourism businesses, maritime activities, administrations, environmental systems and public services all generate information that can become more useful when combined with that of other stakeholders.

VISOR: using data to better understand Fuerteventura

The application most directly linked to the island that will travel to Menton is VISOR.

The pilot addresses a common difficulty: there may be plenty of environmental, territorial and tourism data available, yet it can still be hard to get an overall picture because it comes from different sources, formats and organisations.

VISOR works to combine this information and turn it into indicators that help provide a better understanding of what is happening in the territory and support decisions on its management and resilience.

The project is being developed in Fuerteventura with the Fuerteventura Biosphere Reserve acting as a territorial validator, so that the technological development can be tested against the island’s real management needs.

VISOR is also part of PHOENIX 4.0, an initiative funded by the European Union to help small and medium-sized tourism businesses tackle the challenges of digitalisation, sustainability and resilience.

“For us, what matters is that Fuerteventura is not seen merely as the place we work from, but also as a territory where solutions of potential interest beyond our shores are being developed and tested. Taking TOURiLab and VISOR to Menton allows us to show what we are doing here, compare it with international experiences and keep connecting the island with a very broad technology community,” explains Jessica Gil, co-founder of the company.

A connection that can also benefit the island

The value of this presence goes beyond showcasing two specific projects.

The FIWARE community brings together businesses, major technology companies, public administrations, universities, research centres and organisations working on standards and interoperability.

Taking an active part in this ecosystem makes it possible to learn from experiences developed in other territories, build relationships with new stakeholders and keep bringing fresh knowledge to projects being developed in the Canary Islands.

For Fuerteventura, it also means gaining a presence in international discussions directly linked to some of its main challenges: tourism, sustainability, territorial management, the blue economy and digital transformation.

Participation will begin on 8 September with the Training Day ahead of the Summit, dedicated to FIWARE technologies and their application to data spaces. On 9 and 10 September, MNX Online and TOURiLab Data Space will be present as supporting partners and exhibitors. On 10 September, the presentation of TOURiLab and VISOR will take place as part of the Making Data Spaces Happen session.

The supporting partner status also carries special significance: this is the first time MNX Online and TOURiLab have contributed as partners to an event, and they are doing so precisely at the global gathering of the FIWARE community, after several years of active involvement in this ecosystem.

Menton will thus allow Fuerteventura to be, at the same time, the origin of the case being presented, the territory where it is being tested, and a visible part of an international technology conversation.
