The first meetings will take place on 15 and 16 October as part of an initiative that will reach all six municipalities of Fuerteventura to boost community participation and collaboration on the island
The Fuerteventura Protagonista project continues to move forward with the launch of the Municipal Community Nodes, starting with the first informational meetings in Antigua and Pájara. These sessions will present the initiatives planned for each municipality and open up a space for dialogue with residents, associations, groups, professionals and local authorities.
Driven by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura’s Department of Social Action, Diversity, LGTBIQ+, Citizen Participation and Open Government, led by Víctor Alonso, and carried out in collaboration with the Fundación General de la Universidad de La Laguna (FGULL) and the island’s town councils, the project aims to strengthen community participation by building relationships between those who are part of everyday life in the island’s neighbourhoods and villages, helping them share common interests, identify existing resources and put forward proposals of shared benefit.
The Community Nodes are conceived as open spaces for participation and collaboration, tailored to the circumstances of each municipality. The aim is to help people get to know one another better, share experiences and find new ways of contributing to community life where they live.
First meetings in Antigua and Pájara
The first informational meeting on the Nodes will be held in the municipality of Antigua on Thursday 15 October at 7.00pm at the Antigua Senior Citizens’ Centre, on Calle Alcalde Montesdeoca Cabrera. The session will present the proposal “Generational exchange around the municipality’s popular Christmas cuisine”, which aims to recover and share recipes, knowledge and experiences across generations, celebrating local memory and traditions.
In Pájara, the meeting will take place on Friday 16 October at 5.00pm at the Casa de la Juventud in Morro Jable, located at Calle Mascona, number 34. On this occasion, the “Pájara Associations Fair” initiative will be presented, aimed at bringing local associations together and showcasing the work they carry out in the municipality.
Both meetings are open to residents, organisations, groups, professionals and administrative staff linked to each municipality. The involvement of these different participants will be key to shaping the initiatives and supporting their development.

An initiative for all six municipalities on the island
Although the process begins in these two municipalities, the rollout is part of a wider strategy that will extend to Antigua, Betancuria, La Oliva, Pájara, Puerto del Rosario and Tuineje. More details about the meetings planned across the island, and the opportunities to take part in each municipality, will be announced in the coming weeks.
This new phase builds on the listening process carried out by Fuerteventura Protagonista and seeks to create spaces where the perceptions, proposals and capacities identified can come together to give rise to new shared initiatives.
The nodes are therefore intended to help those who live in and take part in each municipality find opportunities to get involved, strengthen their relationships and contribute to improving life in their communities.
