La Oliva Town Council, together with the Malphaltero Weightlifting Club and Cabildo de Fuerteventura, today presented the 5th edition of the Malpey Fuerteventura Games. This crosstraining competition attracts more and more followers of the sport and a healthy lifestyle every year. Now in its 5th edition, participants will once again showcase their endurance, agility and technical skill in Corralejo.
Once again, the competition will be divided into three levels according to the skill of each participating pair: scaled, intermediate and RX/Master, each of which is further split into men’s, women’s and mixed categories.
Participation is set to grow once again compared with 2025, when the event brought together just over 300 athletes, consolidating an upward trend that places the Malpey Fuerteventura Games among the leading fixtures on the Canary Islands’ crosstraining calendar.
The mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, highlighted “the growth potential of this competition, created and driven by majoreros and majoreras, which manages to attract participants from outside the island and generate activity in the municipality. Behind the Malpey Fuerteventura Games are people who believe in Fuerteventura, who are committed to building projects from the island, and who have managed to turn a sporting initiative into an event recognised both within and beyond the Canary Islands.”
For her part, the Councillor for Sports, Gleiber Carreño, noted that “competitions like this one show once again how sport is one of our municipality’s key assets. In this sense, the level of participation reached in this fifth edition shows that the event will continue to grow in the years to come.”
Finally, the Cabildo’s Councillor for Sports, Luiso González, explained: “The Malpey Fuerteventura Games have established themselves as a benchmark sporting event for Fuerteventura and a showcase for majorero sport. Hosting a competition of this calibre reinforces the island’s image as a sporting destination. It highlights disciplines such as fitness, crosstraining and functional training. And above all, it encourages local athletes to take part alongside competitors from other islands and territories, creating opportunities for interaction, exchange and learning among athletes and clubs.”
The Malpey Fuerteventura Games will bring together athletes and crosstraining enthusiasts in the municipality of La Oliva this weekend, in an event combining sport, competition and activity at the Fuerteventura Island Athletics Centre.
