The programme includes training in palm basketry, reproduction of indigenous pottery, majorera hat-making, and majorera and Canarian pottery in Puerto del Rosario, Betancuria, La Oliva and Tuineje
The Cabildo de Fuerteventura, through its Craft Council (Consejería de Artesanía), is launching a new edition of the EnRedArte project, an initiative that seeks to preserve and pass on the island’s traditional crafts through training and the learning of traditional techniques.
This year’s programme includes five workshops running from late September to November at various venues in Puerto del Rosario, Betancuria, La Oliva and Tuineje, with places limited to ten people per course.
The Councillor for Crafts, Lolina Negrín, points out that “EnRedArte allows us to keep bringing traditional crafts closer to the public and, above all, to help ensure that this knowledge and these techniques continue to be passed down between generations.” She adds that “we want crafts to remain a living part of our culture, offering spaces to learn, create and appreciate the value of handmade work.”
The programme begins on 30 September with two workshops at the Casa de la Cultura in Puerto del Rosario: the Palm Basketry workshop, taught by Ángel Nolasco Herrera, running on Wednesdays from 4.00pm to 6.00pm until 25 November, and the Majorera Hat-Making workshop, also led by Ángel Nolasco Herrera, on Wednesdays from 6.00pm to 8.00pm until the same date. Both are beginner-level courses.
On 1 October, three more workshops will get under way. The Museo Arqueológico in Betancuria will host the Fuerteventura Indigenous Pottery Reproduction Workshop, taught by José Aradas García. This advanced-level course will take place on Thursdays from 5.00pm to 8.00pm until 26 November.
Also starting on 1 October, the Majorera Pottery workshop will be held at the Centro Cultural de Tindaya, led by José Aradas García. This beginner-level course will run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5.00pm to 8.00pm until 26 November.
Finally, the Centro Cultural de Las Casitas in Tuineje will host the Canarian Pottery workshop, taught by Delfín Díaz Almeida. This beginner-level course will take place on Thursdays and Fridays from 5.00pm to 8.00pm until 20 November.

The EnRedArte workshops bring the public closer to techniques linked to Fuerteventura’s craft heritage, encouraging their learning and continuity, and helping to keep alive knowledge that forms part of the island’s cultural identity.
