Mayor Juan Cabrera, together with the Councillor for Employment, Sebastiana Verde, and Radio Ecca, have presented a new educational agreement to continue formal training in the municipality, giving residents access to primary and secondary education.
Antigua Town Council is backing formal education this school year through a new agreement signed with Radio Ecca.
Mayor Juan Cabrera announced that 20 training grants are being offered to unemployed residents of the municipality of Antigua who are over 18 and in situations of economic vulnerability, enabling them to obtain an official qualification that will open the door to new job opportunities. The grants cover primary education (EIPA) and secondary education (ESPA and Bachillerato) through ecca.edu, helping to improve their academic and professional prospects.
“The idea is to be able to extend the agreement and the budget, because this administration is committed to helping all our residents improve their education, with more courses and greater investment in training,” said Juan Cabrera.
The Councillor for Education, Sebastiana Verde, added that Antigua Town Council is providing the facilities so that Radio Ecca teachers can deliver in-person classes, saving Antigua residents from having to travel to other municipalities. The teaching method is based on a three-dimensional distance-learning system that is flexible and designed for adults who need to balance their studies with work or family life.
The director of Radio Ecca in Fuerteventura, Carmen Nieves Hernández Díaz, explained that this agreement was first launched in 2023, and enrolment is now open for anyone interested.
