La Oliva Town Council, through its Department of Culture, headed by David Hernández, has presented the 20th edition of the Corralejo International Blues & Jazz Festival, which will take place on 22, 23 and 24 October on Avenida Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Held in collaboration with the Cabildo de Fuerteventura’s Department of Culture, led by Rayco León, the musical event will bring together leading artists and groups from the local, national and international scene over three days devoted to blues, jazz and live music.
The festival marks its 20th edition this year with a programme combining different styles, musical offerings and educational activities, cementing Corralejo’s status as a meeting point for musicians from a range of backgrounds and bringing these genres closer to residents and visitors alike.
The programme kicks off on Thursday 22 October from 7.00pm, with an opening night dedicated to island-based artists, featuring performances by Das Pulpo Jazz Quartet, from Fuerteventura, Atlantic Jazz Ensemble, who will present Ella & Louis, from Tenerife, and Fuerteventura Big Band, who will bring their show “Her Voice, Her Jazz” to the stage with Marey Martín and Alejandra Batista.
On Friday 23 October, from 6.30pm, it will be the turn of Blues Night, an evening that will open with a blues-jazz introductory dance masterclass led by Nacho Peregrino and Cristina Martín. Audiences will then be able to enjoy performances by Haylen & Sanpa Trio, from France, Betta & The Groovers, from Madrid, and Toronzo Cannon & The Chicago Way, from Chicago, United States.
The festival will close on Saturday 24 October with Jazz Night, also starting at 6.30pm. The final evening will again feature the blues-jazz introductory dance masterclass by Nacho Peregrino and Cristina Martín, followed by performances by Noa Lur Sexteto, from Madrid, Andrés Barrios Quinteto, from Seville, and Tropical Moon Jazz, a group with ties to Madrid and Italy.
The mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, said: “We invite residents and visitors of La Oliva to come and enjoy this International Festival, where they can experience blues and jazz up close over three days on Avenida Nuestra Señora del Carmen.”
Meanwhile, the Councillor for Culture, David Hernández, highlighted: “The town of Corralejo becomes a benchmark for both musical genres, with artists from different parts of the world coming here to entertain locals and visitors alike. As in previous years, we will enjoy the local night, jazz night and blues night. We invite everyone to come and enjoy great music with us.”
Finally, the Councillor for Culture at the Cabildo, Rayco León, stated: “This is an unmissable event for the cultural diversity Fuerteventura has to offer, with blues and jazz taking centre stage in a festival that has grown and consolidated over these 20 years. The line-up is international, but it also includes groups from the island, further establishing the event as a key cultural fixture and tourist attraction for Fuerteventura and, in particular, for Corralejo.”
The Council invites the public to take part in this new edition and enjoy three days in which live music will take centre stage in Corralejo.
