The meeting will take place on 13 and 14 October at the Palacio de Formación y Congresos and will address challenges such as climate change, biodiversity conservation, marine protected areas and ecological connectivity
Fuerteventura will host the ‘International Meeting Biosphere in Action, Climate and Biological Corridors’ on 13 and 14 October, an event organised by the Fuerteventura Biosphere Reserve that will bring together specialists and representatives from different regions on the island to share experiences and address some of the main challenges relating to the conservation of the natural environment and adaptation to climate change.
The meeting will be held at the Palacio de Formación y Congresos de Fuerteventura and is designed as a space for exchange, cooperation and the generation of proposals around the role of Biosphere Reserves as benchmark territories for progress towards more sustainable development models.
The councillor for the area, Marlene Figueroa, explains that “holding the meeting in Fuerteventura reinforces the island’s role as a Biosphere Reserve and as a territory committed to conserving its natural assets, adapting to climate change and seeking ways to move towards sustainable development”.
The programme will showcase experiences and projects developed in different Biosphere Reserves and address issues such as climate change, biodiversity, biological corridors, ecosystem conservation and adaptation, palaeontology, digital tools applied to environmental management, and the expansion of marine protected areas.
The meeting will feature the participation of specialists linked to universities, organisations and national and international projects. Speakers will include representatives from the Universidad de La Laguna, the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and bodies and projects related to biodiversity conservation and Biosphere Reserves from various Atlantic territories.
The programme will be divided into two sessions. Tuesday 13 October will focus particularly on climate, covering issues related to adaptation, biodiversity, biological corridors and various experiences and projects linked to climate action. Wednesday 14 October will be devoted to the biosphere strand, with content relating to Canary Island palm trees, ecosystem conservation, marine protected areas and various experiences developed in Biosphere Reserves.
In addition to the talks and working sessions, the programme includes various networking and participation spaces, aimed at encouraging the exchange of experiences among professionals, institutions and people involved in the management and conservation of the territory.
A space to share experiences and drive action

The initiative involves organisations linked to UNESCO’s MaB programme, the World Network of Biological Corridors, and various projects and organisations related to ecosystem conservation and sustainability.
The meeting will be held on 13 and 14 October at the Palacio de Formación y Congresos de Fuerteventura. The full programme is available on the event’s website, www.fuerclima.com.
