On Saturday 19 September, the Plaza de Nuestra Señora de La Peña will bring together voices from across the Archipelago, accompanied by musicians playing a range of instruments
Music will also take centre stage at the Fiestas in Honour of Nuestra Señora de La Peña, with the Encuentro de Solistas (Solo Singers’ Gathering) bringing together some of the finest voices from across the islands of the Archipelago next Saturday, 19 September. The event will take place at 7.30pm in the Plaza de Nuestra Señora de La Peña, in Vega de Río Palmas.
The gathering will feature Patricia Muñoz, from Tenerife; Iván Quintana and Mariví Cabo, from Gran Canaria; Ciro Corujo, from Lanzarote; and majorero singers Esteban Ramírez and Marey Martín, in an evening dedicated to one of the most deeply rooted musical traditions of the Canary Islands and to bringing together voices from different islands.
The singers will be accompanied by a group of musicians made up of Isidro Ramírez on double bass, Silvestre Ramírez on lute, Aga Umpiérrez on timple, Misael Jordán on guitar, and Fernando García on percussion.
The Encuentro de Solistas thus joins the cultural programme of the Fiestas de La Peña, which every year turn Vega de Río Palmas into a meeting point for the people of Fuerteventura and help keep the island’s traditions and cultural expressions alive.
The Plaza de Nuestra Señora de La Peña will host this musical event as part of celebrations combining devotion, tradition and culture, which will take place from 17 to 20 September in honour of Fuerteventura’s patron saint.
