Mayor Juan Cabrera announces that the goal of promoting sport and offering active leisure alternatives during the summer months has been met.
Alejandro García, head of the Sports Department, says the whole team “is very pleased with the response the programme has had, with good attendance recorded across the various activities, as well as the atmosphere of togetherness and participation that accompanied the programme.”
Antigua Town Council’s Sports Department has wrapped up the activities of the ‘Verano y Deportes 2026’ programme with great success, drawing more than 500 participants. It was a successful edition featuring a wide and varied range of courses and activities for all ages.
Antigua’s mayor, Juan Cabrera, highlighted that the goal of promoting sport and offering active leisure alternatives during the summer months had been achieved.
“The various activities put on throughout the campaign attracted very good participation from children, young people and adults alike, cementing sport as one of the main healthy leisure options during the summer months,” said Juan Cabrera.

The figures bear this out: 190 children took part in summer camps in Antigua and Caleta de Fuste. In July, there were 60 participants in Antigua and 35 in El Castillo. In August, 60 people took part in Antigua and 35 in El Castillo, among other activities, bringing the total number of adults and children across all activities to more than 500.
In light of all this, Mayor Juan Cabrera concluded that Antigua Town Council will continue working to promote sport, healthy lifestyle habits and civic participation, “rolling out new sporting and active leisure initiatives throughout the year and maintaining our commitment to bringing physical activity closer to residents of all ages.”
