Dojo Guaboren will hold the 7th edition of the Women’s Self-Defence Seminar on 21 November, from 9.00am to 2.00pm, at the Gran Tarajal Sports Pavilion.
More than 700 women have already taken part in this training programme, which this year will be led by instructors including Juan José Lorenzo (Gran Canaria), Noelia Moreno (Madrid), Giuseppe Caracena (Italy), Alexis Alonso (Fuerteventura) and Francisco Querol (Valencia).
The Councillor for Sports, Luis González, highlighted the support the event receives through the Cabildo de Fuerteventura’s island sports grant programme, calling it “an event that also fulfils the social purpose behind all sporting activity, in this case combining equality and sport”.
The Mayor of Tuineje, David Herrera, thanked Dojo Guaboren for always working with the Ayuntamiento to hold this activity in the municipality. “It’s a source of pride to host a seventh edition of an initiative that helps harness the transformative power of sport, given the effort this involves on the part of the Dojo.”
Meanwhile, the president of Dojo Guaboren, Alexis Alonso, encouraged anyone interested to take part and explained that the initiative forms part of Dojo Guaboren’s Stop a la Violencia (Stop Violence) social inclusion project.
He also thanked the ‘El Castillejo’ Residents’ Association, which is handling the charitable side of the event this year, with registration requiring a donation of one kilogram of non-perishable food or pet food. Alonso also extended his thanks to all the organisations and individuals backing the project to make it possible, and reminded people that registration can be done by calling 659 697 999.
Javier Alonso, president of the Tesjuate and Llanos Pelados ‘El Castillejo’ Residents’ Association, congratulated Dojo Guaboren, the Cabildo, the Ayuntamiento and everyone involved in the seminar, which also has a strong charitable dimension thanks to the association’s involvement.
Also present at the presentation event were Playitas Resort marketing officer Carlos Van Linden, Antigua councillor Victoria Cerdeña, opposition councillor Sonia Álamo, and other representatives of Guaboren.
