Antigua will not raise cab fares until the Government of the Canary Islands resolves the single tariff.
– Antigua is working to increase the number of cab ranks throughout the municipality and improve the service response to the growing demand, with the final approval of ten new cab licenses in the next month.
– The Municipality of Antigua works with the cab associations in the Municipality in the common objective of improving the service and unifying criteria.
– In the current context, economically difficult for families and while the Government of the Canary Islands does not finalize and approve the modification of tariff or single rate, Antigua will not raise the existing cab fare, says the mayor, Matias Peña.
The Municipality of Antigua is working on several actions to improve and guarantee a good cab transport service in the Municipality, increasing the number of cab ranks, bus shelters with built-in security cameras and road surveillance.
To these improvements, says the mayor, Matías Peña, in the coming days we will publish the resolution of ten new cab licenses that not only generate more employment in the sector and in the Municipality, but also ensure a quick and effective response to the growing demand for the service, both by customers in hotels and neighbors and residents.
We work with the existing cab associations, in order to give unity to the criteria and always move forward in improvements. In this sense, the mayor points out, we have already announced that we will not raise the Taxi fare until the body that has the competences, that is to say, the Government of the Canary Islands, resolves the file it is working on and allows a legal framework to act on them in each Municipality.
The criteria to be taken into account are several, says Mayor Matías Peña, first of all to consider the complicated economic situation that families are currently enduring, so consequently, in the islands public transport remains subsidized, on the other hand, and according to the Ministry of Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, to ensure the transparency of the amount to the customer, indicating the route or itinerary.
