The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through the Department of Education, announces the opening of the pre-registration period for the 2025/2026 course of the Insular School of Music. The period to formalize the application will be from 5 to 25 May. Applications can be made through the links provided on the official website escuelademusica.cabildofuer.es. All the information about the educational offer, age requirements and registration fees are available on the website. As new features, the folklore area is opened at the headquarters of La Oliva and a choir group in Gran Tarajal.

The president of the Island Corporation, Lola Garcia, explains that the center has seven locations distributed throughout Fuerteventura with the aim of facilitating access to musical training to people of all ages and bring musical training to the different localities of the island. In this sense, he stresses that “the Insular School of Music is a fundamental center to facilitate access to musical training for students from Fuerteventura and promote local talent.

In this line, the Councilor for Education and Youth, Adargoma Hernández, encourages all those interested to take advantage of this opportunity to start or continue their musical training. He also stresses the commitment of the Cabildo in its commitment “to a wide range of training accessible to all people that promotes interest in music, as well as creativity, personal development and cultural enrichment of students of Fuerteventura”.

Academic offerings

For the next academic year 2025/2026, the program of the Escuela Insular de Música will offer classes in three main areas of specialization: classical music, modern music and folklore. These disciplines are designed for beginners as well as for those with previous experience, who will be able to take proficiency tests to access higher levels.

Within the area of classical music, students can be trained in clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, violin, cello, double bass, classical guitar, solo timple, percussion, piano, singing, musical language and different choral formations adapted to different ages. Those interested may enroll in this specialty from the age of eight, except for the choir and music and movement courses, which have different age criteria. In addition, those who wish to access a level other than 1st year of Basic Education may request a level test.

The area of modern music will include training in electric bass, electric guitar, modern percussion, modern double bass, modern saxophone, modern timple, modern singing, modern piano, Spanish guitar, modern and applied harmony, and improvisation. The minimum age of access for this specialty will be 10 years old, except for electric guitar, which will be from 14 years old.

The folklore area will offer classes in bandurria, lute, guitar and timple. Those interested will be able to access this specialty from the age of seven, and will also have the possibility of taking a proficiency test if they have previous experience.

Training by location

Each of the seven venues spread around the island will offer a program adapted to local needs and demands. The Puerto del Rosario venue will offer a wide range of activities, including classical, modern and folk music. In Casillas del Ángel there will be folklore classes, with specialties such as bandurria, lute, guitar and timple. Valles de Ortega will offer folklore and choirs for children, youth and adults.

At the Gran Tarajal site, students can enroll in classical music classes, such as classical guitar, piano, musical language and mixed choir for those over 16 years of age, as well as children’s and youth choir for ages 8 to 15. In addition, there will be folklore and modern music classes such as electric guitar, modern percussion, singing and modern piano.

The Lajares site will offer training in modern music with classes in electric guitar and modern percussion. In Corralejo, students will be able to specialize in electric guitar within the area of modern music. Finally, the La Oliva site will offer a wide range of classes combining classical, modern and folk music.
