The City Council of Puerto del Rosario has fulfilled its responsibility as a consortium entity and has settled more than five million euros outstanding with the Water Supply Consortium of Fuerteventura (CAAF). This step is a solid foundation to continue promoting improvements in the production, distribution and storage of drinking water for the population.
“As a City Council, we assumed our responsibility and faced this debt that for years had not been settled. Today we can say that we are up to date with the Consortium, which reinforces mutual trust and allows us to continue working together,” explains the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera.
The mayor wanted to value the coordinated work between institutions: “I want to publicly congratulate the Minister of Water, Adargoma Hernandez, and the president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Lola Garcia, because today is a reality the significant change we are seeing in improving both the production and distribution of water, while maintaining the public nature of CAAF, something that for us is essential.
For his part, the Councilor for Economy and Finance, Juan Manuel Verdugo, emphasizes that paying off this debt was key to municipal financial stability and credibility with other administrations: “This payment reflects our responsibility as a City Council and our desire to keep our accounts healthy. Good economic management allows us to continue promoting necessary works and ensure that every euro is invested where it is most needed”.
Thanks to this fiscal responsibility, the municipality sees reflected a real change in the improvement of the service, with actions ranging from the optimization of production capacity to the modernization of distribution networks in different locations such as Tefía, El Time, Tetir, El Charco or Puerto Lajas.
The mayor recalls that in previous years, during the summer months, consumption peaks generated supply cuts, a situation that has been reversed with the improvement of production capacity and the increase in storage capacity. However, he stresses that there is still a long way to go: “We know that we cannot let our guard down. Our priority is to continue renewing distribution networks to reduce leaks and guarantee a more reliable and quality service for all our neighbors”, emphasizes De Vera.
The City Council is working in coordination with CAAF so that the resurfacing works are carried out in parallel with the renovation of the hydraulic networks, avoiding future breakdowns and optimizing each investment.
“To update us as a consortium entity is a commitment to good management and with the citizenship. Only in this way can we continue planning projects that allow Puerto del Rosario to have a decent, sustainable water supply, adjusted to the needs of a capital that continues to grow,” concludes De Vera.
