The Cabildo de Fuerteventura, through Fuerteventura Film Commission, congratulates Juan Pedro Vera, author of the screenplay set on the majorera island, which has been awarded at the international laboratory IsLABentura 2026.
The screenplay for Jauría has received the DAMA Series Award at the fifth edition of IsLABentura. The project is a fiction series that tells a story set in Fuerteventura in the 1980s, when the Spanish Legion arrived on the island. The series reflects the process of adaptation following the arrival of 5,000 Legion soldiers. During the research process, Juan Pedro Vera carried out several interviews, including with Fuerteventura’s official chronicler, Tero Brito, and the former president of the Cabildo, Gerardo Mesa. The author also visited various sites frequented by the Legion at the time, accompanied by veterans, as well as other locations in Puerto del Rosario.
IsLABentura 2026
As it does every year, Fuerteventura Film Commission is supporting the international screenwriting laboratory IsLABentura, with stories based on locations across the Canary Islands archipelago. During the first phase of the laboratory, screenwriters Cristina Naranjo and Juan Pedro Valera had the opportunity to experience first-hand both the local culture and the natural settings that provided the backdrop for their screenplays in Fuerteventura, with the collaboration and guidance of Fuerteventura Film Commission, led by Nereida Calero. The tutors for the participating screenwriters were Sara Helsinki and Pablo Bartolomé.
The final phase of this edition took place in Gran Canaria, where participants and tutors spent the last few days developing the screenplays and preparing them for the final pitch before producers. Representatives from Movistar Plus, Secuoya, Onza, Portocabo, Fasten Films and Buendía Estudios attended the laboratory, along with Canary Islands companies Naif Films, Amuse Studio and 3 Doubles, among others.
