Work on the first phase of the new recreational area in Los Llanos de la Concepción is already under way. At present, efforts are focused on marking out the perimeter of the whole site with stone walls, a feature that will define the character of the future facility.
It is worth highlighting the collaboration of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, which is supplying aggregate materials to create a roadside verge bordering the highway measuring more than 200 square metres.
Part of this work forms part of the Generando Oportunidades Employment Plan, funded through the Plan Integral de Empleo de Canarias (PIEC) via the Servicio Canario de Empleo, in collaboration with the Cabildo de Fuerteventura through the FDCAN fund, and Puerto del Rosario Town Council.
A complete space for leisure and traditional sport
Once this first fencing-off phase has been completed, the project envisages a second stage that will turn the site into a meeting place for residents and visitors alike. A picnic area with tables and wooden pergolas will be created, designed to offer a comfortable space in harmony with the natural surroundings. Several bola canaria courts will also be installed, with the aim of encouraging the practice of this traditional Canarian sport. The space will be rounded off with a large car park to make access and stays easier for users.
The mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, has highlighted the importance of this project for the town: «This new recreational area is a firm commitment to improving the quality of life for the residents of Los Llanos de la Concepción, providing a meeting place to enjoy leisure activities and traditional sport in a natural setting that respects our landscape.»
For her part, the Councillor for Local Development and Parks and Gardens, Erica González, praised the work of the teams making this project possible: «I want to thank the employment plans that are collaborating on this work, as well as the effort and dedication of the team of stonemasons, whose work has been essential in raising these stone walls, which are already beginning to give shape to this new space. Without their commitment, projects like this would not be possible.»
The Councillor for Municipal Services and for Towns and Neighbourhoods, David de León, said: «This project responds to a long-standing demand from the people of Los Llanos de la Concepción, who for years have called for a leisure and sports space for everyone to enjoy. Thanks to the joint work of different council departments, the Cabildo and the employment plans, we are making that demand a reality, with stone walls that blend the project into the landscape and facilities designed mainly for the enjoyment of the town’s residents.»
