The bells of the Church of Casillas del Ángel resounded this Saturday as a symbol of devotion and unity, marking the most solemn moment of the festivities in honor of Santa Ana: the traditional offering to the Virgin. An act full of emotion and popular fervor that took place after the pilgrimage and brought together neighbors, families and authorities in an atmosphere of respect and pride for the roots of the people.
The mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, and the first deputy mayor and councilman of Culture, Juan Manuel Verdugo, were present at this offering, sharing with the people this moment of special significance for Casillas del Angel and the entire municipality.
“The town’s commitment to its traditions is worthy of admiration. Casillas del Ángel has once again set an example of how to keep our cultural heritage alive, that which is passed down from generation to generation and which forms part of our identity as a people,” emphasized the mayor, David de Vera, at the end of the event.
For his part, the Councillor for Culture, Juan Manuel Verdugo, wanted to thank “all the people who make these festivities possible, which are not only celebration, but also memory, history and living culture. From the City Council will continue to strongly support such events that enrich our town and strengthen our ties.
Between songs, parrandas and emotion, the neighbors were approaching their offerings to the Virgin, in a collective show of faith, love and gratitude. The image of Santa Ana, surrounded by flowers and products of the field, again became the spiritual center of a festival that, year after year, renew its value as cultural heritage of Puerto del Rosario.
During the eighteenth century there was an economic prosperity that led to an increase in population, this favored the ecclesiastical decentralization begun in 1708, which divided Fuerteventura into four parishes: Antigua, Betancuria, Casillas del Angel and Tuineje.
The City Council of Puerto del Rosario congratulates the people of Casillas del Angel for their dedication, commitment and love for their festivities, and appreciates the involvement of all the people who make them possible, helping to keep our traditions as alive as ever.
