Istac and Segittur correlate the increase in air bookings and seats to the island for the summer with the improvement in local employment
Lola García values the data positively, always betting on a tourism model focused on quality and not quantity, whose benefits have an impact on the benefit of our population.
Marlene Figueroa: “We must value the contribution of tourism from all angles, especially its capacity to create jobs that sustain family and local economies”.
The employment data associated with tourism in Fuerteventura are very positive for the current summer season 2025. Direct and indirect jobs linked to the service sector grow to reach the figure of 52,150 jobs. They are almost 1,500 workers more than in the same period of 2024, as reflected by the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (Istac) of the Government of the Canary Islands.V
The president of the Cabildo, Lola García, values positively the employment data related to the tourism sector: “We cannot ignore that the tourism industry leads our island’s economic activity, so, from the public and private sectors, we must propose an innovative tourism model focused on quality and not quantity, which generates employment in our island and whose benefits are distributed to the people who live here”. Without forgetting, García adds, “the commitment to a sustainable destination, focusing our efforts on renovation instead of new construction in order to preserve our territory and our landscape, which is precisely what makes us unique as an island”.
The Councilor for Tourism of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Marlene Figueroa, explains that these “good and encouraging” figures are the result of a tourism policy coordinated with the private sector and aimed at attracting visitors “with capacity and willingness to spend in destination that generate wealth for workers and workers of Fuerteventura and their families”.
“When we talk about the tourism sector, we must value its contribution from all angles, especially its capacity to create jobs that sustain family economies that consume on our island and promote other local economies,” reiterated Marlene Figueroa.
In this line, the Sociedad Mercantil Estatal para la Gestión de la Innovación y las Tecnologías Turísticas (Segittur), under the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, analyzes data on searches, bookings made and regular airline seats with Fuerteventura for the months of June, July and August 2025 and compares them with the same period in 2024.
