The warm response to the initial information sessions has led to the launch of new spaces for meeting and public participation, with sessions scheduled for 21 and 30 October
The Fuerteventura Protagonista project continues to bring community development to the island’s various municipalities, creating opportunities for people to meet, share experiences and concerns, and recognise all that they can achieve together.
The first information sessions held in Antigua and Pájara have brought the project closer to local residents and highlighted a clear interest in opening up new spaces for meeting, collaboration and participation in community life.
The participation and openness to connection shown at these initial sessions provide a solid starting point for moving forward. Beyond simply presenting a project, these spaces foster relationships between individuals, associations, professionals and public bodies, recognising the capabilities that exist within each municipality and the possibilities that arise when they are shared.
The project is being driven by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, through the Department of Citizen Participation and Open Government (Consejería de Participación Ciudadana y Gobierno Abierto), headed by Víctor Alonso, in collaboration with the Fundación General de la Universidad de La Laguna (FGULL) and the island’s six town councils. The next step will be to establish the community working groups, conceived as open spaces for sharing interests, identifying needs and exploring joint proposals for action in each municipality. To this end, two new meetings have been scheduled: in Antigua, on 21 October at 6.00pm, at the Centro de Mayores; and in Pájara, on 30 October at 5.00pm, at the Centro de Juventud.
The sessions are open to anyone interested in contributing to life in their municipality, from individual residents to associations, community groups, professionals and other local and administrative stakeholders. There is no need to belong to an organisation or group in order to take part. Anyone can come along, share their knowledge, put forward ideas or simply meet other people with whom to pursue initiatives of common interest.
The initiative is based on a simple premise: every municipality has experiences, resources and people capable of contributing to its development. The challenge lies in creating the conditions for them to meet, recognise one another and work together. The community groups are therefore presented as opportunities to connect people and initiatives, strengthen relationships and turn shared concerns into concrete actions.
Fuerteventura Protagonista is thus continuing to extend its work across the island’s six municipalities, with the aim of fostering closer public participation, strengthening collaboration between the different local stakeholders and encouraging more cohesive, jointly responsible communities.
