Yesterday took place the inauguration of the 36th edition of the Insular Crafts Fair in the municipality of Antigua, with the official opening of the institutional stands. The Municipality of Tuineje participates in this edition with a stand that highlights the value of the wood oven, a key historical element in the tradition of the municipality.
The wood-fired oven represents a fundamental part of Tuineje’s cultural heritage, linked to the elaboration of products such as bread, buns and other traditional foods. These practices reflect knowledge and skills passed down from generation to generation, in harmony with the natural resources of the Majorero territory.
“With this stand we want to pay tribute to a historical tool that has been key in the history of our homes, our traditions and our festivities. It is a way to vindicate what is ours and show it with pride to the whole island,” said the Councilor of Culture, Dulce García.
The mayor of Tuineje, Candelaria Umpiérrez, stressed that “the Insular Crafts Fair is an unmissable event to show the rich heritage of our municipality. Tuineje has a history that has been baked slowly, like bread in the wood oven, and this is a great opportunity to share it with those who visit us.”
The traditional crafts of Fuerteventura, protagonists of this fair, are part of the valuable cultural heritage of the Canary Islands. The skills, knowledge and products of Canarian artisans express a unique way of relating to the environment, based on the use of local materials and traditional techniques.
The fair will continue through Sunday, offering the public live demonstrations and tastings of products made in the traditional style at the Tuineje stand in a full-size, functional wood-fired oven that has been designed specifically for the event.
