The City Council of Puerto del Rosario has initially approved the new Regulatory Ordinance for the Provision of Taxi Service, an innovative text that modernizes and strengthens the management of this essential service for mobility in the municipality. The approval comes after years of demands from the sector and citizens, who demanded a clear, updated and legally secure regulation.
Among the main new features of the ordinance is the creation of the Municipal Taxi Coordination Center, a pioneering instrument that will allow real-time monitoring of the geolocation of vehicles, optimize compliance with shifts and ensure that the service adequately covers the entire municipality, including strategic areas such as ports and airports.
The mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, stressed that this new ordinance “is a firm commitment to provide the city with a modern tool to improve the quality of service and ensure equal opportunities among cab professionals. With this step we are responding to a historical need, betting on a more efficient, sustainable and closer to the reality of residents and visitors mobility.
For his part, the Councilman of Transportation, Luis Chacón, emphasized that “This ordinance is the result of months of joint work with representatives of the sector, with the advice of the Directorate General of Transport of the Government of the Canary Islands and specialized entities. Now it opens a period of exposure public for 30 days so that professionals, associations and citizens can make suggestions and help to improve the text”.
The new regulation also includes specific sections for fleet management, the integration of technological systems, the regulation of preconcerted and concerted services, and a sanctioning regime that guarantees compliance with the rules, avoiding unfair competition and ensuring the quality of the service.
The mayor recalled that “in this legislature important steps have already been taken such as the awarding of new PMR licenses, the updating of fares after more than a decade without revisions or the resolution of historical conflicts that prevented progress. This ordinance is the next step to consolidate a cab service that responds to the challenges of a modern and dynamic city”.
The City Council encourages all professionals in the sector and the public to participate actively during the public exhibition period, submitting proposals for improvement that will lead to a clear, effective and consensual ordinance.
