From July 17 to August 2, the beach of La Barca will host one of the most important sporting and tourist events in Fuerteventura.

The City Council of Pájara presented today the 37th edition of the World Windsurfing and Wingfoil Championship, to be held from July 17 to August 2, one of the most emblematic sports competitions of Fuerteventura and with greater international projection. The event will take place, as every year, on the beach of La Barca de Sotavento.

This competition, which brings together elite athletes from around the world, has a huge sporting and tourist attraction, becoming a first class showcase to showcase the natural qualities of the municipality and the entire island.

The official presentation of the event took place this morning, Tuesday, July 15, at the Innside by Meliá Hotel, where institutional and organizational representatives gave all the details of the event to the media.

The mayor of Pájara, Alejandro Jorge, expresses his satisfaction for continuing to host an event of this magnitude. “This championship is already part of our identity and shows that we are a destination capable of hosting international events successfully and responsibly.”

The president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Lola Garcia, and the Councillor for Tourism, Marlene Figueroa, highlight the firm commitment made by the Island Corporation and the Tourist Board for one of the most important events in the world, which places Fuerteventura on the global map of water sports.

A championship that has the best windsurfers in the world, and that is much more than sport, “as it brings a great economic dynamization: Its impact generates millions of euros in revenue for small and medium enterprises, as well as stores and businesses in the area, with an unquestionable media impact worldwide,” adds Lola Garcia.

The Councilor for Tourism of Pájara, Tina Da Silva, highlights the impact that, year after year, has had this sporting event on local tourism. “Beyond the sport, this competition is an open window to our culture, our gastronomy and our way of life,” she points out.

The Sports Councilman, José Benito Alonso, put the focus on the collective effort that makes this event possible. “We are prepared to offer the best experience, both to the athletes and the public, and we will continue to bet on events that promote sport and benefit our community,” he says.

Nico Prien, representative of the PWA, collaborating company, points out that “we have worked to make this year’s experience unforgettable, both for athletes and visitors, and to continue projecting internationally the image of Fuerteventura as a unique destination for windsurfing and wingfoil”.

David Navarro, representative of the company DN7 Music, organizer of the festival ‘La Carpa’ highlights the key role of the event that “has become a perfect complement to the championship, offering a unique experience day and night. It is a privilege to produce this festival in such a special environment, and with artists that connect with local and visiting audiences. This year, we are going one step further with a high-level musical proposal”.

In addition to the sports competition, the La Barca area will once again host the La Carpa festival, a space with a capacity for 4,500 people and a musical program that will feature leading artists such as Omega, Kapo and Omar Courtz, among others.

As in previous editions, the event will have a security device and a violet point, to ensure a playful, inclusive and free of any kind of violence environment.
