Jacinto el Pescador will be the town crier for the Fiestas de Pozo Negro 2025
– Born in Pozo Negro, the sailor, D. Jacinto Perez Perez will be the Pregonero of the Festivities in Honor of San Juan 2025.
The Mayor of Antigua, Matías Peña García and the Councillor for Festivities, Pedro M. Armas Martín, surprised this Thursday morning at his home, Mr. Jacinto Pérez Pérez Pérez to formally propose him to be this year’s town crier of the festivities of Pozo Negro, the village where he was born and where he has grown up and created a family, being a sailor and fisherman.
Being at work on the reconstruction of a ship, he was nervous and excited by the assignment, accepting the order and thinking about all the details that would have to be organized, details the councilman of Festivities, Pedro Armas.
The town criers of the festivities of each town should be from the same town and those who have more stories to tell, by age or life, and Jacinto certainly, says the mayor, Matias Peña, has many anecdotes to tell about how it was and how this town of Pozo Negro is, being the family beach of the municipality, the first natural harbor of the island and the entrance and exit of the fishermen of the time, those of all life that he knew well.
The Fiestas de Pozo Negro in honor of San Juan, organized by the Department of Festivities of the City of Antigua already has a poster and intense programming to enjoy the weekend of June 19 to 23.
It starts on Thursday at 20:00 hours with the opening speech of D. Jacinto Perez, celebrating it with the traditional sardinada for all attendees, on Friday the musical performances of Duo Fantasia, Mejor con Copas and the Estrella Latina Orchestra, will star the stage.
Music and children’s parties will not be missing during the weekend, with fireworks display on Saturday night, on Sunday at noon, mass and procession with the image of San Juan present, and of course, as closing of festivities, the night of Monday 23, great bonfire of San Juan, preceded this year with the ritual of positive energy led by the Shaman of the Canary Islands.
