The rain alert and the prealert for storms and flood risk condition the work plan of ‘Fuerteventura, beautiful by nature’.
The crews of the program ‘Fuerteventura, beautiful by nature’ of the Cabildo have modified their work plan to conclude today the actions in the Cactus Garden of the Museum of Cheese and Las Peñitas, in both cases in its final stretch. This change is motivated by the rain alert and the pre-alert for storms and risk of flooding.
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has decided to alter the schedule and accelerate it to try to conclude both actions before the rains arrive and thus not have to postpone its completion for next week.
These works of ‘Fuerteventura, beautiful by nature’, “beautify landscaped areas, improving a place of attraction for both visitors and residents as are the gardens of the Museum of Cheese and Las Peñitas,” explains the president of the Cabildo, Lola Garcia.
The contract awarded to Gesplan by the department headed by Blas Acosta contemplates actions to be carried out over 15 months, between 2024 and 2025. During both years, four million euros will be invested in about a hundred “proximity actions” that have a direct impact on the conservation of the natural environment, on the good perception of visitors and on the quality of life of residents.
The Antigua Cheese Museum and its surroundings are a clear tourist reference, an essential counterpoint to complement the beach offer. But at the same time, this complex concentrates and explains a good part of the majorera personality, of its identity, with elements such as its emblematic Cactus Garden.
The museum complex has benefited from an extensive action that includes improvements such as clearing, cleaning and improvements in green areas, as well as the recovery of about 180 meters of stone walls. The beautification of the Cactus Garden is the culmination of the intervention of the Gesplan crew sent by the Cabildo.
As for the ravine of Las Peñitas, one of the most emblematic and monumental of Fuerteventura, the crews had already subjected it two months ago to a thorough cleaning of vegetation and debris that obstructed the natural waterway. The return these days to the ravine seeks to reinforce those cleaning and clearing works and improve the image of the natural environment of Las Peñitas, especially its trails.
The ravine of Las Peñitas is an exceptional enclave on the island of Fuerteventura. This emblematic place is located within the Protected Natural Area of Betancuria Rural Park. The ravine of Las Peñitas extends from the town of Betancuria to the head of the ravine of Mal Paso. It is known as Las Peñitas in relation to the dam of the same name that was built in 1937.
