The new gastromarket will be a meeting point for residents and visitors, where gastronomy, the sea and history coexist in an accessible and modern space.

The City Council of Puerto del Rosario has officially received the works of integral rehabilitation of the Municipal Market, an emblematic intervention that involves the recovery of a historic building -the former first insular slaughterhouse- for its transformation into a modern, lively and connected with the identity of the capital of Puerto del Rosario.

The act of reception of the work was attended by the mayor of the municipality, David de Vera, together with the Councilor of Commerce, Tacoremi Gutiérrez, the Councilor of Works, Ana Hernández and the Councilor of Contracting, María Franco.

The project has involved an investment of close to one million euros, financed entirely with municipal funds, and aims to return to the citizens a public space of great symbolic and functional value, integrating tradition and modernity. The new market will connect the historic Puerto Cabras with the maritime avenue, projecting a renewed and dynamic image of the capital.

Mayor David de Vera stressed that “this infrastructure not only recovers an emblematic place, but also boosts local economic development and activity in the urban center. It is a project that unites past and present, looking towards the future of a more modern Puerto del Rosario and connected to its coast”.

The councilor of Commerce, Tacoremi Gutiérrez, stressed that “the market will be a living showcase of our gastronomy, local entrepreneurial talent and local commerce. A place where tradition and creativity will coexist to enrich the experience of those who visit us and those who live here”.

The renovated market will have 14 stalls on the first floor dedicated to local products, promoting the local economy, and an upper floor with an attractive restaurant area designed as a gastromarket. This space is designed as a meeting point for residents and visitors, reinforcing the commercial fabric and social dynamism of the municipality.

For her part, the Councilor of Works, Ana Hernández, explained that “the project has been conceived with respect for the original architecture and with criteria of sustainability and accessibility, providing the city with a functional space that is representative of its historical identity”.

In parallel, work is already underway on the drafting of the market’s internal operating regulations, as well as on the contract specifications for the awarding of the stalls. “Our goal is to ensure a transparent, accessible and diverse space, where consolidated initiatives and new entrepreneurs coexist,” added the Councilor for Commerce, Tacoremi Gutiérrez.

With this work, the Puerto del Rosario City Council reaffirms its commitment to the modernization of public spaces, the promotion of local commerce and the construction of a closer, sustainable economy rooted in the cultural identity of the municipality.
