The Fuerteventura Island Auditorium will host this week -on July 8, 10 and 12- the theatrical performances of the workshop “Interpretation Techniques”, an initiative promoted by the Department of Culture of the City of Puerto del Rosario and directed by Professor Lolo A. Martin, which puts an end to the training course of its youth and adult groups.
After the successful show of the children’s group last week, it is the turn of 38 students who have worked intensely during the last nine months to go on stage and share with the public the result of a process full of discoveries, learning and artistic commitment.
Throughout the course, participants have explored different acting techniques: physical action, improvisation, working with the text, active listening, group trust, mindfulness and emotional expression. All this background has given shape to three very different theatrical pieces, which will be performed this week in the capital of the island:
Tuesday, July 8 – 20:00 h “El Viento del Sur” An adaptation of La Ruleta del Sur by Pedro Lezcano Montalvo. A play written entirely in verse that portrays with sensitivity and humor the life of tomato workers in the Canary Islands in the mid-twentieth century. A popular and deeply human portrait, full of poetry, drama and social reality.
Thursday, July 10 – 20:00 h “La Botica de los Sueños” Satirical comedy that delves into the deepest dreams and longings of human beings. A piece that, between laughter and reflections, reminds us that we all share the same desire to be happy. This work of the adult group is based on a scene from the play Tic-Tac, by the Canarian author Claudio de la Torre, a key figure of the Canarian and Spanish avant-garde of the 20th century, which gives it a symbolic and theatrical character of great expressive richness.
Saturday, July 12 – 19:00 h “La Salita de Espera” A free version of La Consulta, by the Canarian playwright Ángel Camacho. A fresh and close comedy starring the youth group, which deals with irony and agility issues such as collective fears, hoaxes, insecurities and social judgment. A current proposal that connects with the pulse of our daily reality.
Mayor David de Vera, highlighted: “the importance of practicing an activity such as theater for people of all ages, where different interpretative skills can be developed, which undoubtedly contribute to the personal development of the students”.
The Councilman of Culture, Juan Manuel Verdugo, wants to emphasize that “every year, this workshop demonstrates that theater is not only a performing art, but a powerful tool for personal and collective growth. Seeing youth and adult groups engage, share and get excited on stage is one of the best examples of what culture can generate in a community.”
The City Council of Puerto del Rosario, through the Department of Culture, invites the public to attend and enjoy these performances, applauding not only the final result, but the entire journey made by each student to reach the stage. Because the theater is still very much alive in Puerto del Rosario … and this week, it will prove it again.
