The City Council reinforces its commitment to citizen participation by bringing information and dialogue closer to each population center.
The City Council of Puerto del Rosario continues to make progress in the process of public exhibition of the Catalog of Protection of Heritage and Cultural Heritage of the municipality, a strategic document that organizes, protects and enhances the historical, architectural, ethnographic, archaeological, paleontological and landscape heritage of the municipality.
As part of this initiative, and with the aim of promoting neighborhood participation in an effective way, the local institution has initiated a series of open information meetings aimed at the neighbors of the towns and neighborhoods of Puerto del Rosario. These meetings represent a further step in the local government’s commitment to a close, accessible and transparent management, where every corner of the municipality has a voice and presence.
Participation, a pillar of an inclusive heritage policy
The mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, stressed that this process is not only a legal procedure, but an opportunity to build a city hand in hand with the citizens: “with this catalog we take a fundamental step to ensure the conservation of cultural and natural heritage of our municipality. But we do not want to do it from a distance. That is why we are going out to the towns and neighborhoods, so that every neighbor can learn about this planning instrument, give their opinion and feel an active part of this collective progress”.
De Vera has insisted that these open meetings allow the Catalog is not only a technical document, but the result of dialogue with those who know their environment best: the neighbors of our towns and neighborhoods “We strengthen our identity as a people and ensure that future generations can continue to know and enjoy our heritage values. And that is only possible if we involve the towns and neighborhoods in the process.”
For his part, the councilman of Historical Heritage, David de León, pointed out that the Catalog includes 843 heritage assets of the municipality, and that the public exhibition phase is key to enrich the document with citizen contributions: “this catalog not only classifies and protects our assets, but also establishes a rigorous technical basis that will allow the City Council to act with greater responsibility and sensitivity in urban and territorial development”.
It is an open and participatory process,” he adds, “and we invite all citizens to get involved, contribute and help us preserve what identifies us as a community. And that starts by being present in the towns and neighborhoods, explaining face to face, resolving doubts and collecting ideas”.
Dates and locations of open meetings
The informative meetings will be held in the coming dates in different public spaces of the municipality, in a decentralized manner:
- Monday, June 16, 18:00h – Library of Puerto del Rosario.
- Tuesday, June 17, 18:00h – Cultural Center of Tetir.
- Wednesday, June 18, 18:00h – Casillas del Ángel Cultural Center.
- Thursday, June 19, 18:00h – Cultural Center of Tefía.
In addition, citizens can consult the complete document at the new Public Information Office of the Municipal Protection Catalog, located at Calle Doctor Mena nº 2, in Puerto del Rosario.
Opening hours: Monday to Friday, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

A living process, with an eye to the future
The City Council recalls that during the period of public exposure, which extends for a month from its publication in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands, allegations and suggestions can be submitted. This process is a historic opportunity for the citizens of all towns and neighborhoods to play a leading role in defining the future heritage of Puerto del Rosario.
