This Thursday, June 5, the resolution that initially approves the Municipal Protection Catalog was published in the Official Bulletin of the Canary Islands (BOC), which marks the beginning of a month of public exposure so that citizens can consult the document and submit allegations.

The City Council of Puerto del Rosario continues to make progress in its commitment to the preservation of the cultural heritage of the municipality with the initial approval of the Catalog of Protection of Heritage and Cultural Assets, a strategic document that will allow to organize, protect and enhance the historical, architectural, ethnographic, archaeological, paleontological and landscape legacy of the municipality.

This catalog, prepared by CF Cabrera Febles, Arquitectura Paisaje y Urbanismo, SLP, includes a total of 843 properties that will have, from now on, a legal and technical protection framework, a transcendental step to guarantee their long-term conservation.

“With this catalog we take a fundamental step to ensure the conservation of cultural and natural heritage of our municipality. We strengthen our identity as a people and ensure that future generations can continue to know and enjoy our heritage values,” said the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, who stressed that this regulatory instrument is part of a global vision of a city that looks to the future without losing its roots.

During this period, the file may be consulted in person at the new Public Information Office of the Municipal Protection Catalog.

Calle Doctor Mena nº 2, Puerto del Rosario.
Opening hours: Monday to Friday, from 10:00h to 14:00h and from 17:00h to 20:00h.
Customer service telephone (active during office hours): 623 957 810
Available from Monday, June 9, 2025.

In addition, the complete document is available for online consultation through the web portal: catalogo.puertodelrosario.org.

In order to encourage citizen participation and resolve doubts directly, the City Council has scheduled a series of informative meetings open to neighbors, which will be held in different parts of the municipality:

  • Monday, June 16, 18:00h – Library of Puerto del Rosario.
  • Tuesday, June 17, 18:00h – Cultural Center of Tetir.
  • Wednesday, June 18, 18:00h – Casillas del Ángel.
  • Thursday, June 19, 18:00h – Tefía.

The Councilor for Historical Heritage, David de León, stressed that “this catalog not only classifies and protects our assets, but also establishes a rigorous technical basis that will allow the City Council to act with greater responsibility and sensitivity in urban and territorial development”. He also called for neighborhood participation: “it is an open and participatory process; we invite all citizens to get involved, contribute and help us preserve what identifies us as a community”.

With the initial approval of the catalog, in addition, the granting of urban development licenses on the plots or properties subject to protection is suspended for one year or until the document is finally approved. The purpose of this measure is to avoid modifications that could compromise the value of the properties while the protection process is being finalized.

However, projects adapted to the regime in force at the time of the application may be processed and granted licenses provided that said regime has not been altered by the determinations proposed by the management instrument in process or that, having been altered, the determinations initially approved are less restrictive or limiting than those of the planning in force.
