Within the framework of the Child Friendly City initiative, the City Council of Puerto del Rosario has organized an educational day aimed at the management teams of all schools in the municipality. The session was attended by the coordinator of UNICEF Education Spain, Aridane Hernández, who presented the project “Centros Referentes en Educación en Derechos de Infancia”.
The aim of this day was to raise awareness of this UNICEF initiative, which seeks to promote education based on children’s rights, encouraging child participation and the creation of more inclusive and respectful school environments for children and adolescents.
During the meeting, the keys for schools to adhere to this recognition were discussed, highlighting the fundamental role of the educational community in the implementation of children’s rights in the school environment. Likewise, experiences and good practices of other municipalities and centers already recognized as referents in rights education were shared.
In addition, copies of the comic book “Ahora si me gustan las calabazas” (Now I like pumpkins) were handed out. Some friendly documents that aim to teach in a playful way to students from 4th grade of primary to 2nd of ESO about participation and children’s rights.
The City Council of Puerto del Rosario, through its commitment to the Child Friendly City initiative, remains committed to educational policies that ensure the welfare and participation of children in municipal life.
The event was attended by Mayor, David de Vera, who thanked the staff of the centers for their involvement and continuous work, which is essential to build a future where every child and adolescent in our municipality feels listened to, valued and protected and the Councilman for Education, Juan Manuel VerdugoShe expressed her enthusiasm when speaking of Centers of Reference for Children’s Rights, she said that to speak of educational centers that not only teach, but also listen to, protect and empower their students, and the coordinator of UNICEF CANARIAS, Rosario PérezHe expressed his appreciation for this initiative, which will continue to provide a backbone for participation in environments where children and adolescents live together.
